18 laps=1 mile
I did not know this stat until after I had completed my run so that's how I ended up with 100 laps. I made that my goal about 3/4 of the way through the run. I didn't really feel dizzy,

Last Run Of September
I wanted to get in 1 last run to add to my September totals...it ended up being a really good run so I was happy I went. Zoe even ran with me for a little bit...okay, she wasn't running, she was walking at a medium speed...

Mac N Cheese Run
Made my run after a delicious dinner of Mac N Cheese tonight...I didn't even have an entire box, but it was enough to slow me down a little. On the bright side, it didn't rain...but it did rain most of the day today.
Erica and I registered for a race on October 15th. She will be running a 5K and I will be running a 10K here in town. Its Ericas first race, so that is exciting!

www.jog.fm
If you go to this website, it has play lists that are designed specifically for a certain run time (i.e. 10:00 mile). You should check it out! It's pretty cool.
Philosophy 101
I ran on the treadmill last Friday and ran on the indoor track last night. My time/pace was definitely not as good as when I run outside. I would guess that my time isn't as good for the treadmill run because there was a lot of incline going on, since I had it set for a run in the Northern Rockies. I am thinking that I run faster/do better running outside because I have a place to run to, not just running for a certain amount of time. I guess some goals just push us to be better...
I am happy to report that the Apple store gave me a brand new IPOD. I am no longer swearing their name. To celebrate, I put together a brand new play list that I listened to last night. I don't have it with me right now, I will have to post later tonight. I know that it will quickly become AT's favorite.
I also wanted to be sure everybody knew that this weekend is Bria's big race. Just in case you have a little extra time to send her a text wishing her good luck....
Friday:
5.5 miles (Northern Rockies/Downtown Chicago Virtual Run)
12:00 pace
Monday:
5.5 miles (100 laps around the track)

Finish
Hopefully the Vikings were watching the Lynx on Sunday so they have some sort of an idea of how to finish a game. Go Lynx. Lori has been at a game this year and Brian is in love with the Lynx point guard Lindsay Whalen...I feel left out.
I didn't have a great run today...my pace was not great, my legs were a little sore from the hike on Saturday. At least it wasn't raining.
Mondays Run:
Miles: 5.43
Time: 47:39

Saturday Cross Training
I did not run this weekend, but I did about a 4 mile hike @ a state park...so I am calling that my cross training workout for the weekend. I am planning on running a little bit later today.
Below are some pictures from Saturdays hike.

We Have 1 Follower - What A Rush!
Mom, congrats on being the first official follower of this blog...Maybe by next May we can double that number.
My body sent me a clear message today before I even laced up the Ghost 4's that it did not want to run. Thank goodness I received a call from my good friend Eminem...who dropped this little rhyme on me...
'Cause sometimes you feel tired,
feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
and just pull that shit out of you and get that motivation to not give up
and not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse.
Just leaving the house today was a win.

First Place Finish Today
Twins are awful. Vikings are going to finish last in the NFC North. Timberwolves would finish 4th in the Big 10. Nobody cares about hockey, so the Wild don't matter. But at least the Lynx have a shot at winning a championship.
I finish first every time I go running by myself...Come on Minnesota, its not that hard.

I Got No Rhythm...
Late Entry from 9/9/11 (Friday)....
My IPOD is down. I called Apple support last week and they gave me some runaround about it being past 90 days since I bought it, so if they were going to help me over the phone I would have to pay for it. THAT was NOT happening. So, I hung up the phone, did some research and re-booted the software myself. No dice. It is most definitely a hardware problem.
I sucked it up and went running Friday anyways. It was a very difficult 6 miles. It was hot, humid and I had no tunes for distraction. I felt every footstep and heard every breath.
Since I use my IPOD for time, I am not positive of my pace, but think it was around 10:00. Again, I had to take a little "time out" a little past 3 miles and check out the French Regional Park restroom facilities. This is getting a little old and I hate what it does to my time.
I haven't fixed my IPOD, yet so I didn't go running Monday night. I went to a step class at the Y, instead. How special for me.
Wednesday night is a softball double header.
Friday I will be in Fargo visiting a friend.
Tough times for my running these days (my exercise nights are Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

9.11 on 9-11
Ten years ago today I was in nowhere Montana at a college fair (as a Mayville State admissions counselor) when the towers fell. I actually felt pretty safe in Montana, just a little bit alone. Its been a long and crazy road since that day ~ and that road has taken me to New York of all places. Here you don't have to search very hard to find someone who had someone significant in their life who was directly impacted by the events of 9-11.
I was thinking all week that I would try to run 9.11 miles today...I had a slow week of running (only 8 miles) so today was the perfect day for a long run. Ended up having a great run time and my body isn't feeling too beat up...those thoughts may change in the morning.
Todays Run:
Miles: 9.11
Time: 1:16:44
Pace: 8:25
And yes, I ate an entire medium sized pizza (ham and pineapple) for lunch yesterday and it was delicious.

Breaking News
Brian's half marathon training has come to a screeching halt. ESPN is reporting that Brian has a blister and may be sidelined until April.
I was able to obtain a picture of this gruesome injury.
The following picture may not be appropriate for some viewers. Viewer discretion is advised.
Foot blisters are very common to ATHLETES and people who wear socks everyday. They develop when socks stick to the sweaty skin of the feet. When the feet and socks then rub against each other on the interior walls of the shoes, the outer layers of the feet’s skin separate from their inner layers, and the space between these layers are filled with lymph fluid. This is how foot blisters (running) form.
Foot blisters usually heal on their own. The blister fluid is reabsorbed and disappears. However, there are cases when the blisters pop (by themselves), causing them to become infected. Once redness, red lines, or yellow liquid develops around the blister, medical attention is required.

What are the symptoms of foot blisters
A person developing blisters on foot normally notices some redness over the infected skin, usually on the instep, the back of the heel, or the toes. In time, the redness turns into a balloon-like area filled with fluid.Thursday, September 8, 2011
Skye Island Drive
Because of the flooding, I had to take a new running route...and it stands to reason the streets that are not flooded are the ones that are at the highest elevations...like Skye Island Drive. Well, I ran up that road today and I disliked every step of it...it was about .7 of a mile long and way too steep.

Cats & Dogs
Today will be the 8th straight day of work for me - My legs are sore from all the work and from last weeks running...I have tomorrow off and will take my Ghost 4's for a swim...I mean run tomorrow...if it stops raining...
I have ordered materials to start building an Ark...I hope they arrive soon because that is going to be the only way we can get anywhere. I believe it has been raining for 40 straight days and 40 straight nights...the children were let out of school early today so the buses would be able to get them home before EVERY street in this city is closed.
I am sitting here @ the dining room table with the windows and door open and all I can hear are police and fire truck sirens going off constantly.
What the hell is going on? Earthquake, hurricane and now this.

Dropping The Deuce
Sorry for the delay on the post - it's been a wild and crazy ride this week!
I did a run on Monday (8/29/11) and it was a tough one for me, I would say the toughest I've had in awhile...
I am not sure what the problem was, but I suffered from some terrible stomach pains beginning around mile 5. This resulted in a lot of stopping and starting for a couple miles.
I would run for a little bit and when I was sure I was going to poop my pants, I would stop and walk. Then I would get mad and begin running again. Repeat.
Finally, I came to a bathroom and was able to take care of some business. I thought that this would resolve the issue, but even after that my stomach was upset. However, I was able to finish by running - just slower than normal.
That night I suffered horribly and spent most of the night in the bathroom. So much so that Luke actually told me that he didn't want me to go running anymore. He was worried about me.

Hurricane Irene is going to hit us on Sunday or Monday - So says the weather peeps. So today might be the last run for me for a while...especially if its as devastating as the earthquake we had this week.

Running Machine!
Literally, I ran on the treadmill on Friday (8/12/11). Didn't have a chance to post until now as I was out of town celebrating the holy matrimony between cousin Eric and MacKenzie.
Still no sign of The Boo..... even in Zumbrota.
I did a virtual active run through Zion in Utah. Put the program on a moderately high challenge so there were frequent incline changes and also challenging inclines. You can see the terrain on the bottom of the screen so I would increase the speed manually and go as fast as I could up the big inclines. I also sprinted for as long as I could, almost 4 minutes, during a flat part of the run that was half way through the run. I tried to sprint the last 5 minutes, but ran out of energy and was only able to sprint about 3 minutes.
Miles: 5 miles
Time: 60 minutes/Ran for 55 (5 minute walking warm up)
Pace: 11
Legs were actually quite sore on Saturday morning!!

Speed Training
Lori - To answer your question a few blogs back about speed training, here is what I have read about and done in the past.
Go to a track -
Run 800 meters at a 8/8:30 minute mile pace - then take a 60-90 second break.
Repeat this 4-8 times depending on how much you want to work.
Find a pretty steep hill -
Run up this hill as fast as you can - then walk back down
Repeat this several times (all depending on how big / steep your hill is)
I think mixing in these workouts will help increase your pace!

Cushion for the Pushin'
Erica's shoes are a curiosity. They look like shoes for people who like to run barefoot. I can't even stand to walk around barefoot so I do not think these shoes would be good for me. I like lots of cushion when I'm pushin' (on the pavement, that is!)!
As far as my playlist choices, I like to mix things up and be surprised. I set my IPOD to shuffle and go with whatever comes up. Your list seems to suggest that you are on your way to a rave....
Thanks for the props on the running! You and Erica are doing a great job - you will both be ready for Fargo in no time! I am thinking that Erica is going to run with us, too????

What's Your Challenge For Today?
Ran last night with running partner. We decided to do a 6 mile run. At the 3 mile point, we turned around and decided we were going to try and beat our time on the way back. We beat the first half by over a minute!!
Distance: 6 miles
Time: 57 minutes
Pace: 9.5 for first 3 miles: a littler over 8 for last 3 miles
Do you have any other ideas for "mini" challenges during a run to increase endurance and speed?

Its All In The Shoe
Erica and I went on her 3rd run tonight. We stayed with the same game plan of running 4 minutes / walking 3 minutes and doing that 4 times. We ran 2.15 miles and walked about .7 miles. When we ran, we ran at a 8:30 pace, which is good. Erica was breaking in some new shoes...they are interesting, don't think I could run in them, but she swears by them. They are called Vibram Five Finger Shoes. I am rocking some Nikes that need to get retired ASAP...notice the blood on the heel of my shoe...good times!
Do You Believe In Intuition?
No, but I have a strange feeling that someday I might...
Todays Run:
Miles: 2.85
Minutes: 25:49
Pace: 9:05
I ran at a very good pace today, but I am still struggling to push past 3 miles.
I am also going to run with Erica tonight...

Boo Boo Sighting
Obviously the SUMMER OF BRIAN has not ended yet...I think thats where our brothers focus is right now.
I Did hear from a little birdie that the Boo did make an appearance at the Farm this weekend, so he is alive. Can't wait to read his first blog...it should be EPIC.
Oh, and nice playlist Lori. WTF? Air Supply? Are you running or making love?
Good call on the GNR, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi.
Good job on your running though sis, seems like you are doing great.

Success!
I actually got a run in today! I did work out on Wednesday - went to a kickboxing class. I thought that might be good training for any close calls at the finish line. But I digress...
I ran around Medicine Lake today - a little windy and very hot. I always have trouble in the same spot around mile 6. There is a very long, gradual hill. My running partner calls this the "Gotcha!" hill because once you get to the top, you turn left and your mind thinks the hill should be over. But that's not the case - you turn left and there is another hill to go up! It is shorter, but still a very brutal part of the run.
The really awesome part of the run came at the end when I got to my car. I couldn't find the key - lost it on my run. Had to walk to park, borrow a cell phone and call Paul to come and bring me a key. Classic.

Morning Run In The Sprinkles
I dislike the morning. I don't function properly in the morning. Loved the weather and the sprinkles felt good, but it felt like I was running in mud. When I say morning, I mean 10:15 am.
Distance: 3.03
Time: 29:45
Rock On. I am a running fool.

Why It Will Take Me A Full Year to Train for 13.1
So....it is now Monday and I have not done any running in over a week due to having to take care of my children. Today would be a running day but it is doubtful I will actually get to go since I am home with sick baby again today. My next chance will be Wednesday. It is a constant crap shoot. Please pray for me.

Fun In The Sun Run
I just finished up running with Erica this afternoon. She is thinking she wants to start running - and I hope that she enjoys it enough to continue to do it. Since Erica has not been running for about 4 years, we started from ground zero. Here is what we did...
Walk 3 Minutes
Jog 4 Minutes
And repeated this 4 times. So we went for about a 30 minute workout. And then of course had to climb Mt. Everest to get back to our house...Erica was not happy finishing the workout walking up the hill.
She is going to be really sore - but did a great job for her first time out in a long time

We Can Go All The Way, Baby!
I ran 6 miles on Monday. It was really hot and humid so it was a tough run. I have a hard time breathing when it is so humid out. However, there were a couple hills involved and I ran one hill twice, sprinting as fast I could the second time to beat my first time up the hill. I beat my first time significantly. Just trying to build up some endurance. I didn't have a playlist - had a running partner and we talked. I didn't run on Wednesday, but did a strength training/cardio class at the YMCA. I must say I was not motivated by the playlist during that class - not a good one. Today would be another running day for me, but I am at home with a diarrhea baby while all the rest of the family went to Valleyfair. Running not going to be an option today. I am definitely going to try to go tomorrow. So far the farthest I have run is 8 miles. I need to try a 10 ASAP. ~ Lori ~

Aaron's First Run In New York
So I have not ran since '65 - And it really hurt. Not to mention I live on the top of a mountain...and trying to finish my run going up a mountain SUCKS. And no, I didn't make it all the way up...I had to walk the last 1/2 of it. None the less, I made it about 20 minutes without having a heart attack. I do believe I can still go far in 2012.
Here were my vitals:
20 Minutes -
Not sure how far?
And most importantly, my playlist:
Tonight Tonight - Hot Chelle Rae
The Show Goes On - Lupe Fiasco
In My Head - Jason Derulo
S&M - Rihanna
Just Dance - Lady GaGa
'Till I Collapse - Eminem
