Happy Halloween

Today I dressed up like a runner and struggled through 3 miles.  It felt like I was giving Boo Boo a piggy back ride..or like I was running in one direction with a leash while Zoe is at the other end running in the opposite direction....or like I have not run in quite some time...or like I have only run 7 times this month...
Anyway, todays run felt like a lot of things and not one of them was anything positive.

Mondays Run:
Miles:  3.00
Time:  26:37
Pace:  8:53
Run Time Temp:  41 degrees

Lori - I like the change to the blog...well done.

Erica and I have registered for a run on Thanksgiving as well.  It is called the TurkeyTrot...and its an 8K race.
Going to need to run a little bit more the next 3 weeks than I did the previous 3 weeks!

Right In My Own Backyard....

Friday - October 21st - I ran a fast couple miles on the track at the Y - finished in a little over 15 minutes and then did a kickboxing class in the gym.  I needed to mix things up a little - you know how  it is.

Last night I actually ran on a new trail that is by our church, it is called the "Minnetonka Regional Trail".  This Trail runs from downtown Hopkins, all the way through Deephaven.  I picked it up somewhere in the middle and ran towards Deephaven, to Lake Minnetonka.  It is a limestone trail which I am not as familiar with, most of my outside running has been on the asphalt.  It was nice. I got out a little late - not as late as AT - so I was trying to outrun the sunset.  It was a beautiful run through the woods.  The smells were terrific and I also saw deer running across the trail.  I ran 4 miles to a vantage point - sat a couple minutes on a bench looking over Lake Minnetonka - and then ran back to my car.  I will definitely do that trail again.  The only disadvantage - NO BATHROOMS.

Miles: 8
Time: 72 minutes
Pace: 9 min/miles

I am also excited to report that I got new kicks!!! I LOVE them!!  My bro, AT, was very instrumental in my search for my new shoes.  Of course, look at the times he's putting up for his running - unbelieveable!  Is there ANYTHING that AT doesn't do well at???  Show me what it is and I'll show you something not worth doing.
I am also signing up for another race - a Thanksgiving morning 5K with cousin Bronson.  Should be a hoot.
Peace out to my favorite peeps.

Never Gonna Grow Up - Never Gonna Slow Down

Went for a tonight...and when I say tonight, I mean tonight.  It was a 9 pm kind of run...and I don't know what its like where you are at 9 pm in October, but for me here in New York, it looks like the following:
Overton Street
Don't worry though, I took some precautions before going out to run...like dressing in all black...black shorts, black socks, black running top.  My saving grace was my pale white skin...because Binghamton is the 5th cloudiest city in the United States, I have not seen the sun since '65 (Mom, I assume you now understand this reference)....therefore I am as white as white can be.

Nonetheless, I dominated my first run after my race...here is what it looked like..in addition I have added a picture of my running route.

Tuesdays Run:
Miles:  3.45
Time:  28:05
Pace:  8:08
Run Time Temp:  50 degrees

Weekend Wrap-Up

I ran 2 miles around the track at the YMCA on Friday night.  I mean to go easy in preparation for my first race Saturday.  I even listened to my playlist titled "Chill" during the run.  However, I knew I only had to do 36 laps, so I just keep running faster and faster trying to get it done.  So much for nice and easy.  However, it was kinda nice to be done with my workout in 15 minutes.  I then rewarded myself with a trip to the sauna.  I think I was in the sauna longer than I ran.  Nice.
Saturday brought the much anticipated first race - the Tonka Trot.  I decided I better team up with a veteran, so of course I sent a text out to Don Kukowski.  I just followed his lead and everything was smooth as butter.  We ran a good race and finished in 55 mins.  We agree that we run pretty well together so we're already talking about more races to run together in the future.  I had a great time and had lots of fun.  My favorite moment of the race was right at the end - I was sprinting to the finish when I heard "There's Mommy!!!!!"  I looked over and saw the hubby and the kids cheering me on.  I actually welled up because my heart was overflowing with happiness.
Today I took a little break from running and decided to go bike riding instead.  So, Paul hooked the Burley up to his bike and the fam went on a bike ride.  Very cool.

OctoberFast

OctoberFast was a success!  The only thing that could have been better is if Erica and I would have done a little more running than we did in the couple of weeks leading up to the race.
It was pretty interesting the way they ran the 5K and 10K races.  The same course (a 5K loop) was used for both races...but they didn't start the 10K race until after the 5K race was done.  This allowed me to watch Erica finish her first ever race, which was nice.  The only bad part about this was that Erica had the key to the car with her and I was a little chilly standing around waiting for the 5K to finish...I left all my warm clothes in the car.

Erica finished her race in 35:15.  There were a 154 runners that ran the 5K.  She was happy with how she did and enjoyed her experience...she is already talking about finding another race to run.

In preparation for my race...I hydrated with 3 liters on Mountain Dew on the day before my race.  It seemed to work...I managed to finish my race in 51:11 (8:15 pace).  There were only 92 people who ran the 10K and I ended up finishing in 49th.  I was happy with how I did...I think it could have gone a little bit better if I had ran a little bit more the last couple weeks...but I can't complain.

It was a very hilly course...lots of ups and downs and the wind was blowing pretty hard.  It didnt rain, which was amazing.  The temperature was around 50 degrees...a nice temperature for running.

As for the "Which Is Most Likely To Happen" game....
It didn't rain here...Lori didn't have to stop to go #2...So I think if you put your money on Brian not running a step on Saturday, you would be correct.  Boo Boo, can you give us confirmation on this??

Continuous Beating

So, I told myself on Wednesday that I was still sore from Monday and I have a race to run on Saturday, so I'll just do an easy 4 mile run....
Well, it was rainy and cold and I had no motivation to run outside so I decided to go to the Y.  I worked late so I missed my class (which is probably good because boot camp always kicks my butt) and ended up on the treadmill.
However, then I just started in on my usual beating -  "Oh, I've run this program so many times, I really should increase my difficulty settings" and "Let's see how fast I can run up this huge incline" - multiple times over, and then my personal favorite "I have some energy left over, I better sprint as fast as I can for the last five minutes to be sure I have absolutely nothing left in my legs." Good Times.
I have been consulting with our family running expert, Bria, and we have determined that a very possible reason for my bowel difficulties is actually dehydration.  So, I have upped my water intake and this has seemed to help, as least it did on Wednesday.  We will see how tomorrow goes.  I now have a hose that goes directly from the water hydrant to my water bottle.
However, I am still a little worried as the regularity is at an all time high - damn those delicious Honeycrisp apples!!!!!!!!
Good luck tomorrow Brother Aaron!! I know you will do super!
My bets are on Boo Boo - I'm all in.
I'm scheduled for another "easy" run tonight....we'll see how it goes.

And Boom Goes The Dynamite

Snuck in a run with Erica tonight - It stopped raining long enough to run 3 glorious miles.

Thursday Run:
Miles:  3.02
Time:  24:37
Pace:  8:08
Run Time Temp:  60 degrees

1965

I have not gone for a run since '65.  Not a big deal...its not like I have a 10K to run on Saturday..oh wait, thats right...I do have a 10K on Saturday.  I am sitting in my house watching it rain...and rain...and rain.

Whats more likely to happen on Saturday?

Aaron runs his Octoberfast in the rain
OR
Lori has to stop during the TonkaTrot at the 3 mile mark and drop the kids off
OR
Brian does not run 1 step on Saturday

GOOD LUCK LORI!!!

Important Updates

Congratulations to brother Aaron on his wedding this past weekend!  You looked so handsome and your Bride was stunning!  It was the perfect wedding - I loved every minute of it.

I did a Boot Camp class last night at the YMCA.  Quite the cardio kick, I was exhausted last night. Especially since I threw anything healthy out the window this past weekend and ate horribly with no exercise (basically since Thursday of last week).  I had good intentions - packed 2 sets of work out clothes so I could run at the hotel if they had an exercise room.  Did they have an exercise room, you ask?  Well, I wouldn't know because not only did I NOT work out at all over the weekend, I didn't even check to see if they had an exercise room.  Running outside didn't even cross my mind. Wow - really put a lot of effort into that one, didn't I?????

I have also decided that I am going to run a 10K race this Saturday.  It is the TonkaTrot in Minnetonka, MN.  I have recruited Uncle Don to run with me for moral support.  I am very scared/nervous/anxious.  Just thinking about it makes my palms sweat and my heart beat faster.  I remember when I ran track in High School, I would throw up or have diarrhea before every race.  I think I am channeling those memories/feelings.  I know I need to get this out of my system before the half marathon in Fargo, but it is hard on my system.  I am so anxious.

Anyone got any Ativan???

I Pulled A Brian...Again

I still have a "blister."

Excuses, Excuses

Man, I had so many of them yesterday for why I couldn't...... shouldn't....... wouldn't ........run.
I got out of my car, then got back in.  I made some phone calls.  I would bet that the other people in the parking lot and at the beach thought I was schizophrenic the way I was acting.
But none of the excuses were "good".  I got really mad at myself and just went.
I was so happy I did.
Of course.
